Years ago—long before Facebook took over the internet—I joined Weight Watchers. Back then, they had an online community, and I became very active in one of their groups. It was more than just a forum about weight loss—it was a daily touchpoint. I would log in several times a day, chat with the same group of women, and slowly, we built something special.
Like in many online spaces, there were different types of participants. There were the regulars—people who showed up daily, sharing their highs and lows, and offering encouragement. There were also the quiet ones who rarely posted, but still felt connected. It was the regulars who kept the conversations going, but all were participants in one way or another.
I was one of the regulars. We cheered each other on, shared recipes, did weekly challenges, and celebrated non-scale victories. Over time, our connection grew beyond the chatroom. We started emailing each other, and some of us even met in person. These women became more than screen names. They became real friends.
I hadn’t thought about that group in a long time but I recently realized something. As I’ve been building Health Warriors, the memory of that community has been quietly guiding me. It’s been the thought in the back of my mind.
I didn’t just want to create another weight-loss support group. I want to recreate the kind of space where women can truly connect. A space where we’re not just tracking calories and steps, but we’re lifting each other up, we know each other’s names and stories, and we genuinely care.
The Health Warriors Tribe isn’t only about health—it’s about connection. That old Weight Watchers group reminded me how powerful that kind of support can be. And it’s my hope that this new space becomes that kind of a safe-space, refuge and rallying point for every woman who joins.
